Synopsis

The Byron Journal is an international publication published twice annually by Liverpool University Press for The Byron Society, London. The journal publishes scholarly articles and notes on all aspects of Byron's writings and life, and on related topics. Since its inception in 1973, the journal has become widely read in many different countries. Apart from providing the leading international forum for authorities on Byron and news of significant events and conferences in the Byron year, the journal also reviews all major works on the poet and prides itself on the speed with which new books are reviewed. Contributions for all parts of the journal and suggestions for review are always welcome.

Contributions should be original and should not have been previously published in any form, including all forms of electronic publication. Contributors are required to assign copyright to Liverpool University Press, and not to publish accepted articles or book reviews on web pages before they appear in The Byron Journal.

39th International Byron Conference at King’s College London, 1-6 July 2013

Byron: The poetry of politics and the politics of poetry

This conference brings together Byron and Romantic scholars from around the world in the heart of London to highlight a theme central to Byron’s work, life, and later reputation, which has never been fully addressed before. Through scholarly papers, readings, debate, a performance of Byron’s drama, visits to the Parthenon Marbles, Harrow School and the House of Lords, and a new exhibition of rare and unpublished items, the conference promises to seek out the sources and nature of Byron’s ‘years of fame’, and to connect the life, the work and the political implications of both in exciting new ways.
