Breastfeeding as an Image of Grace-Filled Service

Modern Believing (2015), 56, (3), 285–296.

Abstract

This paper looks at the medieval use of the nursing mother as a metaphor for nurturing and feeding the faithful. It then reflects on how the image could be used to reflect on a modern understanding of Christian service. In doing so it offers a model of grace-filled service that prioritises relationship, attachment and a self-giving that is constantly replenished.
