Modern Believing

The Gospel and Myth

Modern Believing (2013), 54, (2), 103–111.

Abstract

John Robinson's caution about his proposals in Honest to God are summed up in the title of his first chapter: ‘A Reluctant Revolution’. This article argues that both the method and content of his approach justify A more radical reading of its implications. Robinson democratises theology, whilst challenging the myth of God as a supernatural highest person, a Big Other. The links between Honest to God and contemporary radical theology are thus shown to be urgent and relevant.
