Clergy Career Patterns: Is Leaving or Cleaving Different for Men and Women?

Modern Believing (2007), 48, (4), 10–19.

Abstract

Eleven years on from the ordination of women as priests in the Church of England provides an opportunity to compare the career patterns of male and female clergy. All those ordained to stipendiary ministry in the Anglican Church in England and Wales in one year (1994) are tracked by means of Crockford's Clerical Directory. The results show that gender, age and churchmanship each affect the career patterns of the clergy.
