Abstract

If you want your index to be given intensive scrutiny, give it to a group of indexers to examine. Not sure what the appropriate simile would be: ‘put under the microscope’ or ‘fed to a den of lions’? With a book on indexing, the index would certainly be examined by informed users – indexers! A situation, we all agreed, which would be sure to make any indexer squirm.
