A TALE OF TWO HOUSES: THE PRESERVATION OF ROMAN CATHOLICISM IN RURAL SOUTH WARWICKSHIRE c.1660–c.1800

Archives: The Journal of the British Records Association (2013), 39, (127), 30–38.

Abstract

By studying the role of the Sheldons of Weston House and the Bishops of Brailes, this essay provides a case study of the way in which scattered and scanty documentary evidence can be used to examine the survival of pockets of roman catholicism despite otherwise overwhelming pressure to conform to the Anglican church.
