Reflective practice and mentoring in the development of archivists and records managers

Abstract

This article briefly examines theories of reflection and models of mentoring whose application to the work of archivists and records managers have been little studied. It critically examines the mentoring programmes offered by professional associations and suggests ways in which theory may be more effectively applied in this field. An important part of this is practitioners forming a better understanding and expectations of a mentoring relationship. The work of individual practitioners may benefit and be supported by consideration of these concepts.
