The digital age archivist

Comma (2010), 2010, (1), 97–102.

In recent years Malta has made tremendous leaps in the information and communications technology (ICT) arena, especially in relation to the implementation of information systems and e-Government solutions to provide effective and efficient services to citizens. Malta launched an ambitious national ICT strategy in 2008 to identify and pre-empt the new digital divide. Malta not only invested in ICT, but also established a good information management legislative and educational framework. As a result, many records are being captured through electronic means, but the need to bridge the gap between electronic information and archival best practice has emerged. The new imperative is to articulate the role of a digital archivist to best enable the digital archive of the future.
