The Indexer: The International Journal of Indexing

Building a collage for indexers and bibliographers: photo albums, mirrors, magnifying glasses and crystal balls out of Africa

The Indexer: The International Journal of Indexing (2009), 27, (4), 146–151.

Abstract

Professor Fourie argues that the time has come for individual indexers and indexing societies, at both national and international levels, to move out of their comfort zones and look not so much at what they have been doing well but at what they could do better. They need, she says, to take a hard and critical look at themselves and explore how they can do more to keep abreast with developments in the information field both within and outwith the indexing community, what might be done to increase the flow and dissemination of literature on both the practice and theory of indexing, to promote and act on research into user interests and to open up new perspectives on the future job market for indexers.
