Republic of China (1911–49): retrieving the past

The Indexer: The International Journal of Indexing (2009), 27, (3), 111–116.

Abstract

The Republic of China (1911–49) was a key period in the history of China. Shanghai was its cultural and economic centre with the result that the Shanghai Library has an extraordinarily rich collection of newspapers and journals from the period. Wu Peijuan discusses the collection as represented in the Republic of China Journal Title Database, and explores the value of the Database and its index as a retrieval tool for the historian of the period.
