The Indexer: The International Journal of Indexing
TExtract: a regular user’s view
Abstract
The TExtract software package for book indexing (http://www.texyz.com/textract/) received a generally negative review in The Indexer in 2005 (Vol. 24 No. 4, pp. 250–1). Since that time, however, the program has evolved considerably and is used by a number of professional indexers, some of whom probably prefer to keep their heads ‘below the parapet’ in the controversy on automated indexing. This article attempts to explain how the present version of the software (8.202) can be (and is) used as a labour-saving aid (and therefore also an aid to maximizing income) by a professional indexer.
