Translating and indexing: some thoughts on their relationship

The Indexer: The International Journal of Indexing (2006), 25, (2), 89–92.

Abstract

Translating and indexing are language-focused activities with much in common. Some indexers also work as translators and so may be able to index in two or more languages. All indexers, whether monolingual, bilingual or multilingual, may have to produce indexes to translated texts at some time in their careers. The standard indexing procedures all apply to these, but there are additional considerations and concerns, and pitfalls for the unwary.
