Libraries, librarians, indexes, and indexing: should we care?

Indexer: The International Journal of Indexing (The) (2008), 26, (2), 79–82.

Abstract

This is an abridged version of two articles that appeared in Technicalities (Weihs, 2007a and 2007b), which were prompted by reading the second edition of Indexing books by Nancy C. Mulvany (2005) in preparation for writing a review. Some of my reactions to the author’s thoughts (including the question of who should index a book) went beyond the usual content of a review and grew into the articles.
