The Indexer: The International Journal of Indexing (2008), 26, (1), 3–7.

Abstract

This article discusses the history of book indexing in China and the challenges facing the modern Chinese indexing community, exploring such factors as the writing system, the educational system and the publishing industry. There are challenges ahead, but the latest developments at both individual and institutional level offer much hope for the future of Chinese book indexing.
