Local Jazz and the Exigencies of Global Tourism: A Critical View of Le Festival International de Jazz de Montréal

Abstract

Cet article analysera le Festival International de Jazz de Montréal sous la lumière des relations grandissantes entre le tourisme culturel et les activités artistiques, ce qui contribue à réorganiser les pratiques culturelles locales en des formes aboutissant à un marketing de la ville comme attraction touristique aux dépens d'une autonomie et d'une particularité locales. La problématique de la signification culturelle des espaces de représentation vient du contraste entre les endroits constitués par les clubs moribonds de Montréal et les espaces éphémères du festival d'été. Cet article explorera le contexte économique et culturel dans lequel le Festival se déroule, par le truchement des concepts de l'espace et de son articulation.
