Cross-Border Circus: Americans in Montreal, a panel discussion

Quebec Studies (2014), 58, (1), 65–86.

Editors: Louis Patrick Leroux, Jane Moss

Panelists: Amy Cohen, Francisco Cruz, Kyle Driggs, Louis Patrick Leroux, Sarah Poole, and Duncan Wall

In July 2013, the Montreal Working Group on Circus Research and the American advocacy group Circus Now held a discussion in the library of the National Circus School during the Montréal Complètement Cirque festival. Panelists were mostly American circus professionals, teachers, or recent students who gravitated to Montreal, the North American circus hub. Topics discussed include the culture shock experienced by Americans in Montreal, the expansion of their artistic vocabulary, what Québec and America bring to each other's circus traditions, and circus training in Québec and the US.
