Prestel indexing from the user’s point of view

The Indexer: The International Journal of Indexing (1988), 16, (1), 7–10.

Abstract

The wide range of subject access methods offered to Prestel users is outlined, with reflection on the distinction between the semantic concept of indexing, physical access to the indexing itself, and physical access to the pages referred to in the indexing. Although the user’s point of view is taken, some attempt is made to illuminate users’ problems by referring to options and constraints faced by information providers and by Prestel’s own Information Management team, as well as the fundamental restrictions of the system itself.
