Abstract

Indexing modules in word-processing and page layout software are usually not cost-effective alternatives to stand-alone indexing programs. Experience with Multimate and Ventura Publisher is cited to show that the indexes they produce quickly and cheaply are of low quality, and using them to create good-quality indexes is slow and cumbersome.
