Transactions of the Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire
Liverpool University Press has published Transactions of the Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire on behalf of the Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire since 2019.
Transactions of the Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire is a high quality, double blind peer-reviewed annual journal which includes articles and short notes reflecting recent and original research on diverse aspects of the history of the historic counties of Lancashire and Cheshire (including, therefore, modern-day Merseyside, and Greater Manchester). First published in 1849, over 160 editions of the journal have been published. This represents a considerable and influential corpus of scholarly material on the history of the two counties. Articles cover a range of topics and periods, and are of wide-ranging scholarly and popular interest.
'History’ is defined in its broadest sense. Content is not limited by theme or chronological coverage, and can include comparative work provided that the primary focus is upon one of the two counties or places therein. Additional related themes would include, for instance, the pedagogy of teaching aspects of local history within the same.
Reviews of recent volumes of Transactions have endorsed the Society’s reputation as a supporter and publisher of scholarly research, a reputation which the Society’s Council aims to enhance.
Online access to the last 10 years of the journal is available to all subscribers and members of the Society. The archive of earlier articles is hosted by the Society at www.hslc.org.uk.
