Abstract

“Is she making objects?” “Is she making art?” “Is she making herself?”1 A fiber artist with Down’s syndrome, Judith Scott sets into motion a number of questions—questions about herself and her art objects that express wonder about the object status of what appears, about the visibility of any appearance, and about whether the human body must be compared to an artwork. In this introduction I cite Tom Di Maria, but redirect his last question to reflect the equation between object, artwork, and person.
