The Public Monuments and Sculpure Association
Founded in 1991 the Public Monuments and Sculpture Association (PMSA) established the Sculpture Journal to provide an international forum for writers and scholars in the field of sculpture and public commemorative monuments.

The inaugural volume of the journal was published in 1997, and in 2004, the first volume was published in partnership with Liverpool University Press. This was the same year that LUP and the PMSA also published the first volume in the Public Sculpture of Britain series. Upholding the PMSA’s founding aims the Sculpture Journal is now the UK’s foremost scholarly journal devoted to sculpture in all its aspects.

In 2020 the decision was taken to transfer ownership of the Sculpture Journal to LUP from the PMSA, continuing and strengthening the tradition of promoting leading international research in sculpture studies that the PMSA has done so much to establish.

LUP wishes to thank the PMSA Trustees, the editors and advisors for their enlightened custodianship and, above all, to acknowledge the PMSA’s leading role in ensuring the Sculpture Journal’s success, over this 23-year period.
